We have put together some basic Questions and Answers to help guide you through filing a claim against your Homeowners Policy for storm related damage:
How do I know I have damage to my roof?
Get it inspected. Give us a call to receive your FREE Roof inspection.
What if I have the damage do to Wind or Hail?
We will tell you what your options are, if we see the damage, we will give you a price to replace the roof and then advise you on filing or not filing. We CANNOT guarantee the Insurance adjuster will approve your claim…..all we do is provide you the evidence you need to present your case.
What does that mean?
Simply put, all Insurance carriers (Allstate, State Farm, Travelers, etc.) look at a roof with different specs on what they deem damaged or not. It’s not fair as we have seen damaged roofs get denied and the homeowner rightfully had the damages…..seems to be 1 insurance carrier more than the others. To help prove your case, we provide pictures and video if needed as well as an official report from Trycounty Contracting.
What if I make the claim and it gets denied?
Well, here is the important thing. Be careful on who you call to inspect your roof. STORM CHASERS and other BIG NAMED Roofing Companies, they will tell you that you have damage as they are climbing the ladder….lol. They have nothing to lose by telling you to go ahead and file a claim. Here is the problem, when you file a claim and it gets denied, even though you never received any money, it still counts against your policy. This is why we give an HONEST report. If you don’t have the damage, we will tell you we do not think you should file a claim.
Should I sign a contract with a Roofer when they inspect my Roof?
How should I say this by being politically correct….H*ll No. Why do you need to sign a contract? 1st off, we hope you give us a chance to bid on your roof as well….but if you want to get other estimates, that is fine with us, just tell them to give you a price to do the roof…..watch how fast they run away. WHY? Because the insurance company pays pretty good and those Roofers want all your money. We give you a price and that’s it. If we think your roof is going to cost $4,000.00 and your insurance paid you $6,000.00….well…..you do the math.
Will my rates go up if I file a claim?
Look at your policy closely….your already paying for the tens of thousands of people in the Upstate who have new roofs. If it is a “Storm Related claim” your claim is viewed as “Mother Nature” and falls under a different set of rules. Your policy will go up if you are neglectful and don’t do “Home maintenance” and you start to have rotted wood, Mold, etc….but this is totally different than a storm related claim.
Finally, what does it hurt giving us a call and letting us price the roof EVEN IF YOU HAVE A QUOTE ALREADY. All it will do is keep everyone honest and it might open your eyes to see who was treating you fair?
